And most of all it is in Sheffield. We are the ROTHERHAM TITANS. It does what it says on the tin. Yes Cliffton lane  is not the best but we have more soul than Doncaster in their big soulless ground. Lets move there then. Or best move their ground to Rotherham where we would fill it. DVS  X  X  X as they say in X factor

Ask any away fans and they will tell you that they love our scraggy little ground and the match day experience, for most of them it is their favourite away venue.Over to you Millers fans give us the low down on DVS,ive been once the place looks impressive but its not a rugby environment.

to be honest I think the discussion about atmosphere is a little redundant, wherever we go away from clifton lane (new york; millmoor; DVS) will be 'soulless' compared to the lane due to comparative size and number of supporters to fill it. We will have to move sooner or later, i think that's inevitable due to new regulations/ground criteria that will follow the creation of a professional second tier.

however, the problem with DVS in comparison to the others is the running track, which for something like rugby with it's style of play (rucks, mauls, forward passes etc) doesn't lend itself to being separated from the action as would happen there.

I think New York would be difficult also due to size and the agreement that would be reached re groundsharing, which leaves millmoor as the best option but with the MASSIVE sticking point of THE GREEDY BOOTHS which makes it all but impossible.

In conclusion, who'd be a director at RRUFC?!?

It seems that the move to Don Valley is almost a certainty. There is nowhere else to go and Clifton Lane is not deemed fit for level 2 rugby ,still at least the amateurs will get full use of Clifton Lane and I would imagine the colts as well. When we do move to DVS it might be a good idea for the club to lay buses on from the clubhouse as we have done in the past to millmoor, return ticket that entitles you to a free pint on returning to the clubhouse.

Am I missing something here?

I can understand it if we went up to the Prem but what criteria exists at level 2?

rothman - for me, the writing's on the wall that ground criteria will come in at level 2. it won't necessarily be strict or difficult, but it doesn't need to be to put clifton lane out of the equation, simply on things like access to refreshments and toilet facilities. the way the RFU are moving forwards with professional-ising the division it is a high probability.

using criteria as a reason to move shouldn't be an issue. the RFU has already shown us this in the formation of the premiership. You only have to meet the criteria if you are promoted. the members of the league were allowed and still are able to do what they want.
using this as a test case in law means rotherham can stay at clifton lane!

eg..Bath would not get kicked out of the Premiership even tho the Rec doesn't come up to the required standards,
so Roth ditto with the championship

I agree Rothman, I thought DVS was a 'contingency' in case of promotion.  I haven't read anything about Championship Criteria being finalised yet but it will come.

Perhaps someone at the club could clarify please?

I think it could well be a case of one rule for one... while the RFU are happy for Barf to stay in the premiership i'm sure they'd find some loophole to make it compulsory for 2nd tier clubs.

As for the club clarifying, i think this is all (useful) speculation rather than anything with concrete foundations, both for the criteria and the Titans moving on. Millmoor stalled last year and i think DVS probably would too.

Dv is not a good stadium watch rugby. I spent many years supporting Sheffield Eagles there before turning my allegiance to Roth in the late 90's. The two good things about a move there are a) less travelling for me  b) a much larger pitch rather than the mini rugby pitch at Clifton Lane. Having said that I really like the traditional feel of the Lane.

Reading Yorkshire Post Yesterday it looks as though the club will be at Don Valley next season.  I know all the arguments about moving forward and preparing the club for the premiership, BUT it wont be long before the name Rotherham is dropped from the name and it will no longer be Rotherham Rugby Club.  I think it will be a sad day at Leeds game if it turns out to be the last game of Championship rugby in Rotherham.
